Timezone management in AceProject used to have 2 deficiencies. The first one was Daylight Savings Time, which wasn’t taken care of automatically. The second one was missing timezones.
Well, these deficiencies have been fixed. We are glad to announce that Daylight Savings Time is now taken care of automatically. Hence, every time clocks switch, you won’t need to use an alternate timezone as a workaround. AceProject will switch clocks by itself.
AceProject now offers 90+ timezones. As a result, no matter where your collaborators work from, their timezone does exist, so time references will always be accurate. No workarounds required anymore! This will help dramatically improve team collaboration. All timezones are there, none has been forgotten.
Will the capability to handle sub-tasks be added to AceProject? I saw the work around but was hoping for a better solution to handle 2 sub-task levels below the main level.
Hello Marla,
Just in case the workaround you saw wasn’t very elaborate, here are more details in this regard…
One way to simulate a multi-tear task hierarchy in AceProject is to create “Task Groups” or “Task Types” in your project to represent “main tasks” and then associate subtasks in the proper AceProject task group or task type. That would allow you to filter and view all subtasks of a given «main task» and only these tasks.
You may also use a task numbering scheme to differentiate main tasks and subtasks (for instance, a main task could be #3, and its subtasks would be # 3.1, 3.2, 3.3, etc.).
A combination of both workarounds could yield a 4-tier system…
Task Groups
Task Types
Tasks with integer task number
Tasks with decimal task number
However, this workaround has its shortcomings. The first is that nothing would prevent a user from associating a task to a task group and a task type which are, in fact, “incompatible” (Task Type values are not linked to one specific task group value). Another is that AceProject’s reporting capabilities are not really geared to support this type of organization. However, you would be able to filter and sort your tasks according to this structure.
For the time being, there is no plan to add the ability to create tasks within a task.
Thank you for using AceProject!
