What’s the purpose of the Order number for task groups, types, statuses and priorities?

The order number indicates the order of appearance of the value in the corresponding drop-down.

Additionally,  when task lists are sorted by task group, type, status or priority, the ordering of the tasks is actually based on the Order number.
